The 2024 – 2025 Season Announcement

It’s become a tradition for me to leave a picture clue that hints at the upcoming play and musical for the new school year. I know it is a tradition now because students keep asking, “When are you going to update the picture in Google Classroom and the website?!” Please imagine this being said in very dramatic tones, as is to be expected from any Drama Club member. Well, it’s not that I haven’t wanted to get the headers updated. It’s simply that I was struggling to find a play!

I’ve known the spring musical since last spring. But, the play was harder to figure out. Our theme this year is classic and realistic. I have loved exploring magic, fantasy, and fairy tales these past two years, but it’s time for a change, a return to some classic Broadway. I needed a play that would complement not only the classic Broadway theme but also the musical’s themes. Also, don’t forget that I want to make people happy, consider our long term Drama Club members, select something that can be done on our stage… I think you get the picture!

I’ve been mulling this over for months but could not figure out the perfect play. Until one day at dinner, I shared my criteria with my family. We threw out suggestions, considered the pros and cons, and still were coming up short when a simple suggestion was given by a particularly brilliant person*, “just look for a play based on the ___________ stories.” Quite frankly, I’m shocked I never considered this idea as it is a series of stories dear to my heart. So, I started to search and search but could not find a play, based on these stories, that lived up to their genius. Until today when somehow I combined the right key words and found a play that I am so very excited to produce!

Not wanting to keep anyone waiting any longer, I spent the afternoon making graphics and posting them on Google Classroom and this website. In case you missed it, here is the image clue

Does anyone have any guesses about what our productions might be? If you are having trouble, here are some clues:

Fall PlaySpring Musical
Clue 1This play is about a girl from the past whose stories have taken us on adventures for generations.A musical trip to the heartland.
Clue 2She witnessed some of the biggest changes in American and made sure her life was never forgotten.Featuring catchy tunes by one of the most famous duos in Broadway history.
Clue 3A mother and daughter team up to share tales that have become a part of history. This musical celebrates the charm of a beloved American tradition.

I have a feeling the musical will be easier to figure out. You might guess who the play is about, but I’ll be impressed if you can figure out the specific play!

Look for the official announcement in the school newsletters on Monday!

*OH, and if you are wondering who the brilliant family member is … I’m keeping it to myself unless they choose to reveal themself.

I was always an avid reader, even if I wasn't the best reader. I would read book after book often returning to well loved favorites to read again. My favorite genres are Science Fiction and Historical Fiction. I find both the past and the possible future very interesting. When I became a librarian I was very excited by the prospect of sharing my love of books. I quickly discovered that teaching library and technology is much more than reading books. It's sharing information, learning about reliable resources, digital citizenship, computer skills. Being a librarian at St. Philip's also means I teach technology, film editing, 3d printing, and much more. When I'm not reading and teaching library and technology skills you can find me running SPAS Drama Club.
